Evidence Tampering Charges Filed in Lake Ray Hubbard Death Investigation

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the investigation into the death of an 18-year-old Texas man after authorities alleged they attempted to hide evidence following the incident.

The case centers on Daniel Erving, whose body was recovered from Lake Ray Hubbard several days after he disappeared in April. Although medical officials ruled his death an accidental drowning, investigators claim the suspects concealed critical evidence instead of reporting what had happened.

Daniel Erving Reported Missing

Daniel Erving was last seen at approximately 4:45 p.m. on April 13 after leaving his home on Woodlands Trail in Dallas, Texas.

Three days later, search efforts ended when his body was discovered near the Paddle Point area of Lake Ray Hubbard. Authorities initially classified the incident as a possible drowning before completing further forensic examinations.

Investigation Leads to Two Arrests

Following an extensive investigation by the Dallas Police Department, detectives identified two individuals who were allegedly present with Erving at the lake on the day of his disappearance.

On July 9, investigators arrested Lucas Roper, 19, along with a 17-year-old juvenile, accusing both of tampering with physical evidence connected to the case.

According to court documents, the three had traveled together to Lake Ray Hubbard, where they climbed onto a railroad bridge near Miller Road before jumping into the water. Investigators believe Erving drowned shortly afterward.

Authorities Allege Evidence Was Destroyed

Police allege that instead of immediately notifying emergency services, the suspects disposed of Daniel Erving’s clothing and mobile phone before leaving the area in his vehicle.

Investigators also claim Lucas Roper admitted deleting text message conversations exchanged with Erving before the incident.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that Daniel Erving died from accidental drowning, confirming both the cause and manner of death after completing its examination.
