A 55-year-old Frito-Lay employee died after a stray bullet fired during a dispute near a Nashville lounge traveled into a nearby Sam’s Club and struck him while he was working early Sunday morning.
The victim, Paris Carlock of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was carrying out routine product inventory in the chip section of the Sam’s Club on Antioch Pike shortly after 4 a.m.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, a bullet fired outside the store penetrated a metal wall before hitting Carlock in the head.
Store employees immediately attempted to provide assistance following the shooting. Carlock was transported to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel later confirmed his death.
Carlock’s daughter, Kayla Carlock, said her father’s death has left their family devastated.
She had planned to visit Nashville during the holiday weekend so that her father could meet his six-week-old grandson.
Kayla described her father as one of the most important people in her life and said the two spoke every day. She also appealed to anyone involved in the shooting to come forward and cooperate with investigators.
According to Kayla, the loss has deeply affected the entire family, particularly because Carlock was extremely close to his loved ones.
Kayla also spoke about her father’s reputation among his coworkers.
She said employees regularly appeared happy to see him and described him as a humble and well-liked person who had a positive relationship with the people around him.
For his family and colleagues, Carlock’s death has created an enormous personal loss.
Investigators believe the gunfire was connected to an argument that reportedly started inside Lavo Lounge, located near the Sam’s Club.
Police said people involved in the dispute were removed from the establishment by security personnel. However, the confrontation allegedly continued outside.
Gunshots were later reported as several vehicles were leaving the area.
One of the bullets traveled toward the nearby Sam’s Club, where Carlock was working at the time.
A Sam’s Club spokesperson expressed sympathy for those affected by the incident and said the company would continue cooperating with authorities investigating the shooting.
PepsiCo, the parent company of Frito-Lay, also expressed sorrow over Carlock’s death and extended condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.
The company said it has been cooperating with law enforcement and local officials as authorities work to determine exactly what happened.
The Metro Nashville Police Department is seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or noticed the vehicles connected to the incident.
Investigators are urging people with relevant information to contact police as the investigation continues.
