In Covington, Kentucky, a young father is facing serious allegations after his infant daughter was discovered unresponsive in a bathtub. Authorities say the child had been left unattended in water for several minutes while the father was reportedly in another room using his mobile phone.
Police were dispatched on Tuesday, May 26, following an emergency call reporting an infant who was not breathing, according to official arrest documentation cited by local media outlets.
The accused has been identified as 20-year-old Seffan Mederious. No additional public biography details have been released beyond his age and residency in Kentucky.
According to police reports, the baby girl was placed in a bathtub filled with water and left alone for approximately five minutes. During this time, the father allegedly remained in another room of the apartment, engaged on his phone.
When he returned to check on the child, he reportedly found her floating and unresponsive in the bathtub. Panicked, he transported the infant to a relative’s residence, where emergency services were contacted through 911.
The child was then rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where medical professionals provided urgent care. Authorities later confirmed that the infant is expected to survive and make a full recovery.
Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders stated that the father allegedly left the residence after the incident rather than staying to assist emergency responders.
Officials reported that when law enforcement arrived, Mederious was not present at the scene and was later located hiding at a nearby relative’s home. Prosecutors claim he did not cooperate immediately with authorities or visit the hospital following the emergency.

He appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, May 27. The case is expected to be reviewed further by a grand jury.

The investigation remains ongoing, and legal proceedings will continue as the case advances through the court system. The infant is currently receiving medical care and is expected to recover.
