LAS VEGAS, NV. A new lawsuit has been filed against Roblox saying the company didn’t do enough to keep kids safe on its platform. The lawsuit says Roblox let a grown-up trick and hurt an 11-year- girl.
The lawsuit, filed by a Nevada family on June 5 in the Clark County District Court says Roblox cared more about getting users and making money than keeping kids safe.
The lawsuit says the grown-up started talking to the girl on Roblox in 2024 when she was 11 years old. He pretended to be a teenager to gain her trust. He used Robloxs messaging system to talk to her and eventually got her to talk to him on apps.
The girl, 12 years old is still dealing with the emotional pain. The lawsuit is seeking damages for her psychological trauma.
The girls family says she is getting health treatment for severe emotional distress, anxiety, fear, humiliation and suicidal thoughts.
The lawsuit says Roblox failed to protect kids in three ways:
* It didn’t properly check the age of users letting a grown-up talk to kids.
* Its algorithms helped connect kids with people.
* It wasn’t transparent about the dangers on its platform.
“Roblox says it’s a place for kids ” said Christian Morris, the girls lawyer. “. It ended up hurting this girls self-image.”
This lawsuit is not the one against Roblox. There are other lawsuits across the US saying the company didn’t do enough to protect kids.
“This lawsuit shows a truth: When big tech companies care more about making money than keeping kids safe kids get hurt ” said Alexandra Walsh, a lawyer leading the federal litigation against Roblox.
Roblox says it doesn’t allow behavior on its platform. The company says it updates its safety measures every day to prevent threats.
